To get an answer in one round trip, include your iPhone model and iOS version, the tariff settings involved (charging mode and prices), and what you expected compared with what Tarifo showed. A screenshot of the trip summary helps. Tarifo has no account and sends us nothing, so there is nothing for us to look up on our side; everything we know comes from what you tell us.

Tariffs and fares

How do the charging modes work?

Each tariff uses one of three modes. In every mode the base fare is charged once when the trip starts, and the minimum fare, rounding and extras work the same way.

• Distance + waiting. Distance is always charged. Time is charged only while the vehicle is slower than the waiting speed you set, for example in traffic or while stopped.
• Distance or waiting. Only one of the two is charged at any moment: distance while moving, time while slower than the waiting speed, never both at once. This is how many classic taxi tariffs are structured.
• Distance + time. Both the distance and the whole duration of the trip are charged, like most ride-hailing apps.

If your tariff includes some distance in the base fare, that distance is not charged again. Leave a value at zero to turn it off.

Why is the estimate different from the fare I actually paid?

• GPS is not perfect. Location can be inaccurate or unavailable in tunnels, underground car parks, between tall buildings or when the phone is low on power. Tarifo filters obvious GPS errors, but the measured distance and time can still differ from the real values. The GPS badge on the meter shows when the signal is weak.
• Different prices or rules. The estimate uses only the prices you entered. A different tariff, charging mode, waiting speed, rounding or an unrecorded extra (a toll, luggage) changes the total.
• Interruptions. Pausing a trip, or iOS closing the app, stops measurement for that period.
• Tarifo is not a certified taximeter. A taximeter is an approved measuring instrument, calibrated and sealed for the vehicle. Tarifo is a calculator on a phone, and its results are estimates.

How does the fare quote work?

In Fare Quote, search for a destination and Tarifo asks Apple Maps for a driving route from where you are, then shows a fare range for light to heavy traffic. The real fare depends on the route taken, traffic and waiting time. If you prefer, enter the distance and minutes yourself.

During a trip

Does Tarifo keep measuring when I lock the phone?

Yes. Once a trip is running, Tarifo keeps measuring in the background, and iOS shows a location indicator while it does. The Live Activity shows the running estimate on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. You can turn the Live Activity off in Settings; the change applies to the next trip. Keep Screen On in Settings stops the screen from turning off while a trip is running.

What happens if iOS closes the app during a trip?

Tarifo saves the trip in progress as it goes. If iOS or you close the app, the trip is restored the next time you open Tarifo, paused. Time and distance while the app was closed were not measured. Tap Resume to continue, or end the trip to see the estimate. Swiping Tarifo away in the app switcher counts as closing it, so avoid that during a trip.

Which location permission does Tarifo need?

While Using the App with Precise Location turned on is enough. You do not need “Always”: background measurement works through the background location session iOS gives a running trip. Tarifo asks when you start your first trip. If you declined, go to the iOS Settings app → Apps → Tarifo → Location. Without precise location, distance cannot be measured accurately.

History and data

How do I export my trips?

Open History and tap the share button at the top to export all trips as a CSV file, which opens in Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets. You can also share a single trip from its summary as an image. That image is labelled “ESTIMATE” and is not a fiscal receipt or invoice.

How do I delete my data?

Settings → Delete All Trips removes your whole history. You can also delete a single trip in History, or turn off Save Trips to History so new trips are not kept. Deleting the app removes everything it stored: tariffs, trips, routes and settings. Nothing is stored anywhere else, so there is nothing to delete on our side.

Can I move my trips to a new iPhone?

Tarifo does not sync through iCloud. Your data moves with your iPhone backup or when you transfer directly from your old iPhone. Exporting to CSV keeps a copy you can open anywhere.

Languages and currencies

Tarifo is available in English, Polish, German, Russian, Spanish, Czech, French, Italian and Ukrainian, and follows your iPhone’s language. To use a different language for Tarifo only, open the iOS Settings app → Apps → Tarifo → Language. Each tariff can use any currency (ISO 4217 code) and kilometres or miles; number, distance and date formats follow your region.

Estimates only

Tarifo is not a taximeter. It has not been type-approved, verified, sealed or certified as a measuring instrument under the EU Measuring Instruments Directive (2014/32/EU), national metrology law or any similar regulation, and it is not connected to a fiscal cash register. It must not be used to determine the fare charged to passengers where the law requires a certified taximeter or another approved method of setting the price.

If you transport passengers for payment, you are responsible for holding the required licences and for complying with the rules on fares, taximeters, receipts and taxes where you operate. Check with your local authority if you are unsure.

Privacy

Tarifo collects nothing: no account, no analytics, no advertising. The full privacy policy explains what the app stores on your iPhone and when it uses Apple Maps. Tarifo is licensed under Apple’s standard End User License Agreement.
